Thursday 17th September – shop –Mc Don (wi-fi) – travel – cloudy with rain

Pouring this morning so after breakfast we went to Lidl and got a shop and to McDonalds for the usual computer stuff and Mag posted a photo of us on yesterday’s bike ride to say thanks for all her birthday wishes. Drove to Pont d L’Arch for lunch by the river then on to Bonny sur Loire to stop on the river bank. We stopped here in May but this time we are further along the river with a little beach, hidden from the road and a kingfisher is regularly shrieking as it flies past showing us his brilliant colours:)We had torrential rain just after Orleans but it hasn’t reached here -----yet!

Friday 18th September – Lovely relaxing morning then bike ride **** - sunny periods – 13.27 miles – 22 mph max.

Neither of us slept particularly well for some reason but we had a nice lie in reading and had a leisurely start to the day in the sun. There are clouds going over now and again but a nice morning anyway. Did exercises outside for the first time since last Friday! And had breakfast out there too. Read until 12:30 then packed a picnic unloaded the bikes and headed off up river at 1 o clock. We followed close to the Loire all the way to the huge cooling towers of the nuclear power station passing a couple of deer in the field and carp fishing lakes with signs saying strictly no planche a’ voile – that’s windsurfing to you or me!!! We continued to the canal at Belleville sur Loire past a lovely lock, moored boats and people fishing. After a quick trip around the town we stopped for lunch on the canal bank near a bridge. Mag then did a little more maintenance on her bike computer before setting off on the bumpy canal tow path back to Beaulieu-sur-Loire which is just a short trip back to the van past the little aerodrome. We had just got back to our lovely quiet secluded spot , kettle was on and I was putting the bikes on the van when two w*****s in a white van parked just behind us and proceeded to set up 6 rods using 4oz breakaway leads with whole squid and herring for bait!!! God only knows what is big enough in the Loire to take that???? Will have to check my mate Google and see if there are catfish here? But they made so much noise setting up, stomping about and chatting that there isn’t a fish for miles around now! Then when the fishing beds and tents came out it was time for us to quickly pack the van and move 200m upstream to our original spot, then it poured with rain – bloomin good job too!!! We had Lidl Lasagne for tea – delicious too :)
